Psychotherapy focused on what matters most

Find connection, clarity and relief for all parts of you

You are most likely coming to therapy with a goal. Something isn’t working, something is causing discomfort predictably and consistently and you haven’t yet been able to think your way out of it. Some part of you knows things could feel easier inside.

I view therapy as a collaborative process in which insight, wisdom and healing arise through a relationship of trust and curiosity. Whether you feel depressed, anxious, confused, frustrated, stuck or that your life has lost direction, by welcoming and exploring all parts of you, transformation and healing is possible.

My stance on psychotherapy is existential in nature, in that psychological pain, like physical, often has meaning. Seeking to eradicate our pain before finding out what it means rarely brings the relief we crave. I also approach psychotherapy from a values based perspective. Keeping in mind what matters most to you allows for our work to have direction, clarity and meaning throughout the journey.

Working together

I’m a Licensed Psychotherapist trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) Level 3.
I specialize in complex trauma, relationship stress, burnout, depression, anxiety and ADHD. I work with individuals & couples and have rolling openings for process based therapy groups. I value the experience of each individual and tailor my approach to your unique needs in a holistic, non-pathologizing manner.

I use an integrative approach which includes Psychodynamic, Attachment-Focused, Somatic, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness. I encourage a three session intake process so that you have time to sense my approach and I to learn about your background and relational patterns.

Three sessions allow us to get to know each other and for you to share what needs to be shared while leaving room for some initial experiential internal work. This gives you a chance to feel what it’s like to work together and decide if my style of therapy is right for you. After three sessions we will check in, speak honestly about how the therapy relationship feels and make a plan for next steps.

My approach

I specialize and have advanced training in Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS). IFS is an evidence-based psychotherapy that is very effective with folks who’ve struggled with other modalities, who tend to intellectualize emotions or become flooded by them, or who find it difficult to get in touch with how they are feeling. You can find out more about IFS here.

IFS is the most sophisticated model of “parts work,” taking seriously modern neuroscience that views the mind as modular. IFS sees the nature of our consciousness as being made of different parts with different perspectives and motivations. Its clarity and directness allows us to waste little time getting to the heart of the matter and addressing internal conflicts.

My background in psychotherapy

Hospital Programs
My experience includes outpatient mental health, substance use treatment and inpatient psychiatry treating patients with most DSM-V diagnoses. Before transitioning into private practice I spent 4 years as a psychotherapist at Mount Sinai’s Partial Hospital Program treating individuals experiencing complex psychiatric events such as suicidality, self harm, dissociation and PTSD.

Group therapy
I also have a passion and expertise in group therapy. Having run over 2,000 groups I find it to be one of the most powerful forms for healing.
More on groups here.

Mindfulness + Buddhism
I've spent more than a decade studying Buddhist psychology and have attended several 10-day silent meditation retreats. I am trained in teaching mindfulness and am interested in the relationship between western and eastern approaches to psychotherapy.

Getting in touch

My style is not for everyone, and neither is IFS, but it tends to be much more effective than what folks have tried before. While I will not bring my personal beliefs or personal needs into the therapy room, I will show up as authentically as I expect you to. It is a privilege I do not take lightly to join you in the sacredness of your human experience.
